Types and Effects of Stress...
Changes and challenges in life cause pressures that consume energy, and
when internalized, create stress. Eustress, is positive and
motivational stress we experience when we sign that first big contract,
meet someone new and exciting, or start a business. Distress is what
we tend to have when the contract is broken, the relationship goes sour,
or the business goes broke. Both types of stress consume energy, but
distress will occur when an attitude and belief occurs due to an actual,
but more often a perceived potential loss of control comes about.
This easily leads and feeds anger which accelerates energy consumption
into a burn-out condition.
How can this cycle be stopped and energy be effectively restored?
- Be selective as to what pressures of life you decide to
internalize.
- Check your attitude. Do you tend to give the benefit of the
doubt, or have doubt in the benefit?
- Choose your battles carefully. Is what you see for real, or
just potential? Is it worth the energy drain of getting angry
about?
When Eustress gives way to Distress and anger, it is most often due to
a perceived loss of control, leading to a reduction in a sense of purpose,
and resulting in a short-term focus on life and its priorities.
The only way the body can purge the "juices" of stress in the
body and rejuvenate energy is physical exertion. The recovery
process for the body and it's cells is accelerated when a
